Tiny Tots

A special workshop to celebrate Childrens' Day has been organized for students on 18th November 2018 between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. Some of the scientific ideas will be discussed through Hands-on activities. Entry is free.


i) Telescope Assembly Workshop

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is organizing a 'TELESCOPE ASSEMBLY WORKSHOP' for schools, science centres and general public from November 14-17, 2018. Participants will assemble, collimate and take back a 150mm, f8 Newtonian telescope with Dobsonian mount. The workshop will be for a duration of three and a half days. The workshop will have theory sessions in astronomy and using of Newtonian telescopes etc. Charges Rs.20000/- plus registration fee Rs.1500/- per head.


ii) Celebration of the Month

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is celebrating Homi Jahangir Bhabha’s birth anniversary on October 30th, 2018 between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. The programme is basically aimed at teachers and focuses on discussing the life and work of well-known Indian scientist Homi Jahangir Bhabha.


'Electricity'

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is conducting a discussion on 'Electricity' for students/public under the programme entitled SCIENCE CLUB on 14th October 2018 between 2 pm and 3:30 pm. Entry is free.


Workshop for students

A 3-day workshop for the students of class 6th and 7th entitled Fun with Science is scheduled from 10th to 12th October 2018 between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.


Workshop on 'Space Science'

A one-day workshop on ‘Space Science’ for high school teachers of science will be conducted by J N Planetarium on Oct 4th, 2018 between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm. Lectures by Prof. P J Bhat, ISRO, Prof. M B Rajani and Prof. Asmita Mohanty of NIAS have been arranged. Charges Rs.250/- per head.

Above talks will be followed by a special public lecture entitled 'Fruit Flies in Space: Relevance to Astronaut’s Health!' by Dr. Ravikumar Hosamani, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad at 4 pm. Entry is free.


Workshop on Astronomy

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is organizing a workshop on EVOLUTION AND HEREDITY (based on class X Science Text Book) for school teachers on 19th September 2018 from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm at the Planetarium.Charges Rs.250/- per head.


Workshop on "Astronomy"

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is organizing an Astronomy Workshop for school teachers, science communicators and Educators of science centres in Kannada. The first part of the workshop will be held from 26th – 28th September 2018 and the second part will be in the month of November. It is mandatory that the participants should attend both the parts. The workshop aims at introducing very basic concepts of astronomy, like naked eye sky observations, hands on activities to understand the motion of heavenly bodies. Some historical aspects like the evolution of calendars based on astronomical phenomenon, eclipses and models of the solar system also will be covered.


Science Club discussion on 'Electromagnetism Waves'

Science Club is scheduled on 9th September 2018 at 3 pm. It is mainly targeted at the students studying in classes VIII-XII in order to develop scientific temper among them. Interested public can also attend the session. In this session, EM spectrum will be discussed starting with its discovery, generation, classifications and applications.


JNP is organising a demonstration lecture for teachers on account of "Teachers' Day" on 8th September 2018 from 10.30 am to 1 pm.


Internet

Science Club is scheduled to be held every second Sunday of the month. It is mainly targeted at the students studying in classes VIII-XII in order to develop scientific temper among them. Interested public can also attend the session. Objective of the session is to understand the evolution of internet, the role networks play in internet, wireless networks, security aspects, implications among others. Entry is free.


Workshop on Electromagnetism

A one-day workshop on 'Electromagnetism' for high school teachers of science will be conducted by the Planetarium on Aug 9th, 2018 between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm. The programme aims at discussing the topic through activities that are useful for classroom teaching. Charges Rs.250/- per head.


Celebration of the Month

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is celebrating Vainu Bappu’s birth anniversary on August 11th, 2018 between 10.30 am and 12:30 pm under the programme entitled "Celebration of the Month". The programme basically focuses on discussing the contributions of Vainu Bappu to the field of Astronomy. Entry is free.


Workshop on 'Statistics'

A one-day workshop on 'Statistics' for high school mathematic teachers on 2nd August 2018 between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm the Planetarium. Fee Rs.250/- per head.


A one-day workshop on ‘Metals and Non metals’ for high school teachers of science will be conducted by J N Planetarium on July 19, 2018. This chapter, from class X text book, will be discussed in detail while clarifying conceptual understanding, suggesting interesting experiments and activities to teach the topic.


Science Club – Heat and Environment

Science Club is scheduled to be held every second Sunday (i.e. on 8th July 2018) of the month at 3 pm. It is mainly targeted at the students studying in classes VIII-XII in order to develop scientific temper among them. Interested public can also attend the session. Objective of the session is to understand natural and artificial phenomenon in nature such as heat flow, monsoon, ocean currents, green house effects, etc with emphasis on physics behind them. Entry is free.

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is organizing a half-day workshop on 'Zero Shadow Day' for students studying in class 8th to 12th on 24th April 2018 between 10 am and 1.30 pm. The workshop will cover the concepts related to Zero Shadow Day such as rotation and revolution of the earth, importance of specific latitudes such as equator, Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and measurement of local time. It also includes practical aspects of observing Zero Shadow with various exhibits and calculating circumference of earth from shadows.


In view of the upcoming Zero Shadow Day on 24th April 2018, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is organizing a half-day workshop for teachers and ‘Summer Camp’ organisers on the topic 'Zero Shadow Day' on 17th April 2018.

Telescope Making Workshop

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is organizing a 'TELESCOPE ASSEMBLY WORKSHOP' for the general public and organisations from May 15, 2018. Participants will assemble and collimate a 150mm Newtonian telescope. The workshop will be for a duration of five days. The workshop will have theory sessions in astronomy, and using of Newtonian telescopes etc.


"Astrophotography Image Processing"

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is conducting an intensive one-day workshop on image processing, for the public with several processing examples. Examples are drawn from the thirteen Sky Photo Trips conducted by Shri Ajay Talwar, a renowned astrophotographer. Your own examples of successes and failures will also be taken up for discussion. The workshop is not a power point presentation, but involves working on actual images, data sets. The workshop will be conducted by Shri Ajay Talwar.


Science Club Activity on 11.03.2018

Science Club is scheduled to be held every second Sunday of the month at 3 pm. It is mainly targeted at the students studying in classes VIII-XII in order to develop scientific temper among them. Objective of the session is to demonstrate few science experiments and discuss the science behind it. Experiments involving concepts of EM induction, Light propagation, etc will be discussed.
